Circa’s Peepshow (Club Remix) – Review

Entering the tent we are brought out of the fading daylight and into the darkness of the peepshow club. With dim, red lighting and an onstage DJ to welcome the audience in, this creates a very fun atmosphere. It is an interesting concept and I wonder how they will bring peepshow and circus together.

As soon as the show begins I know it is going to be fabulous. Beautiful fluid movement and dance combined with acrobatic tricks and formations creates a wonderful spectacle as the audience are immersed into the club. As you might expect the performers are scantily clad and not much is left to the imagination. For a group of men beside me this meant slightly uncomfortable giggles for much of the show. I got the sense that they didn’t know what they were in for when they booked these tickets.

The circus work with a slightly different format that your typical circus with dance routines in between the big acts and only a few funny moments. There is however some sneaky audience participation that shocks the crowd and leaves everyone in fits of laughter.

A few mistakes are made throughout the show but they recover well and didn’t let this phase them. Unfortunately this then puts the audience on edge about what could go wrong and makes the show a little bit stressful to watch.

Some excellent pieces on the silks alongside many demonstrations of incredible strength and balance are on display. An impressive and fun show that left the people who accidentally brought their young kids with some explaining to do!
