Danny Beard and Their Band – Review

Danny Beard and Their Band presents an hour of singing, laughs and comedy, a glorious celebration of life, love, taking up space and the lgbtq+ community. Being the winner of UK Drag Race Season 4, the audience expects big things from Danny Beard’s Fringe debut. Beard knocks expectations out of the park and has created a powerful and beautiful show.

This show celebrates everyone but Beard isn’t afraid to rip into the audience members and make fun of everyone. No one is safe from being called out in this show as Beard goes through the audience to chat with people and give their personal opinion on each audience member! One poor soul in the front row was getting called out from start to finish.

Throughout the show Beard talks about queer joy and how wonderful it is that we have spaces like this to feel fully accepted and safe. Thanking everyone who came before them and highlighting what is still to be done. Beard has such a powerful and impactful way with words and it was an absolute joy to watch them on stage and be so present in this moment.

Through many wonderful songs ranging from Adele to Queen, Beard’s singing and performance are phenomenal and a joy to watch. Beard has fabulous comedic timing and knows exactly how to work a crowd.

Beard’s onstage band and singer only adds to Beard’s performance, they all play with such passion and fun and with all of Beard’s adlibs and lyric changes, the band do well to keep up. Although this show is all about Beard there is a real connection between Beard and their band and the band are very much stars in this show too. Beard gives them the recognition they deserve which is very rarely done.

This show was like a wonderful party that I didn’t want to end.
