Lynn Ferguson: Storyland – Review

Lynn Ferguson is a compelling performer and her show is a real treat for the soul, Ferguson’s light and love for life shines through as the audience could tell how much she really appreciates them being there and her joy for telling stories, making people laugh and helping us to understand our world. We learn stories from her life, both huge live changing moments and smaller moments which might seem insignificant to some but are so important in her life.

She talks of her struggles with large world issues such as the pandemic and the ongoing war in Ukraine and  how she felt so powerless. How she learned to cope with this, feeling powerless and small and how she started gaining new perspectives on the world. Sometimes as humans we feel so many things are out of our power or control and to take control of the little things we can do can help us feel a little bit better and less small in the vast universe and world we live in.

This show is so wonderfully entertaining and a real look into humanity. The main lesson being that although you can control the world and the bad and good things that happen to you, you can decide how you view it and how you deal with things. Ferguson’s tone and real talent for storytelling has such a power and the way she puts across her message and her lessons she’s learnt from the world in just an hour is incredible. Ferguson also keeps it funny throughout, keeping the audience giggling away. The show felt very personal and it was almost like she was just chatting away to you as if you were old friends, making the show all the more special. Ferguson is so vulnerable, open and honest in this show which is what makes it so beautiful and brings the audience into her stories even more.

I left with trust in humankind and look at the world with more compassion, everyone lives have their own meaning and hardship but that doesn’t make yours any less valid. A gorgeous hour of storytelling and comedy that was such a joy and pleasure to experience.
