Matty Hutson : Don’t Hold Back – Review

A true performer from start to finish, this talented musician creates a wonderful show through musical talent and comedy.

Matty Hutson has the most hilarious crowd work I’ve seen this Fringe, I don’t want to give anything away because it’s just so brilliant and clever. It’s such a great way to open his show and ensures that everyone in the room is laughing within the first couple of minutes.

Hutson starts us off explaining what musical comedy is, with response songs to top hits like Jolene and Stacy’s Mom. The show starts off strong and continues that way the whole hour through, as Hutson takes us through some of his recent life experiences including trips to sex clubs, psychedelic experiences and excepting himself…kind of.

Hutson’s song writing, musicality and comedic talent is the perfect mixture for a stand out show. His style of musical comedy is truly unique to him and he’s really found something that works, time and time again. I overheard audience members saying they had seen him before and were so excited to be back for more, it’s no surprise Hutson’s work has a loyal fanbase.

Hutson says it himself, we begin the show as an audience but through his crowd involvement we leave as friends. I’m sure this was meant as a joke but Hutson does just this, creating a warm and comfortable environment where the audience can just have a great time and laugh along with Hutson’s multitalented comedy skills.

An incredible hour of comedy anyone will enjoy.
