Sing Sing, which features former prisoners alongside professional actors, is to have its European premiere at the Edinburgh International Film Festival.
The film, from director Greg Kwedar, will be shown at the Cameo Cinema on August 16, thanks to a new partnership with film studio Black Bear and distributors We Are Parable.
Starring Colman Domingo and Paul Raci, it is based on a true story about a group of prisoners who find purpose by acting in a theatre group.
EIFF has recently announced that its early-evening Opening Night film will be Nora Fingscheidt’s adaptation of Amy Liptrot’s best-selling memoir, The Outrun, starring Saoirse Ronan. The film festival, which went bankrupt in 2022 and was relaunched as part of the International Festival will run from August 15 – 22 at venues including the Cameo Cinema and Summerhall.
This year will see the inauguration of two significant prizes for film makers – The Thelma Schoonmaker Prize for Short Filmmaking Excellence and The Sean Connery Prize for Feature Filmmaking Excellence.
The EIFF programme launches on Wednesday 10 July at 5pm, with tickets on sale at 12 noon on Thursday 11 July.
