Heavy Metal Marine Biologist Searches the World For Sharks

The world’s ONLY Heavy Metal Marine Biologist, Tom Hird, a.k.a. The Blowfish, has announced that he is hosting Netflix show ‘All The Sharks’ produced by L.A.-based Best Productions released next month.

‘All The Sharks’ shows competitors venture across the globe in search of sharks.

Tasked with capturing on camera some of the ocean’s most incredible creatures, ‘All The Sharks’ is not just a thrilling adventure, this competition takes it to a whole new level by delving deep into the intricacies of strategy. Diving isn’t just a leisurely pastime here; it’s a calculated game of wits. The clock ticks, and every second counts as teams balance surface time and precious moments submerged.

Hird says: “Getting to host ‘All The Sharks’’ for Netflix was a true honour, and one hell of a dive trip. Being able to front such a unique and innovative show, whilst also being able to champion the cause of shark and ocean conservation was a huge opportunity and I’m glad to say that i took with both fins.

“Travelling round the world, diving on the sharkiest sites the ocean has to offer, is the kind of trip that any marine biologist would dream of! I’m lucky enough to have lived it. Being able to guide the contestants along the way was a real treat. Being made up of such a wide mix of shark fanatics, it was incredible to see how different disciplines took on the challenges I set them. And when you consider that those challenges involved getting face to face with the Oceans most incredible, dynamic and powerful predators… well, it was no easy task for the teams.

“As a highly experienced Dive Master, I could see first-hand how they reacted to new situations and could offer advice when possible. All The Sharks is like nothing you’ve seen before, so buckle up, because you’re all in for one hell of a ride!”

The British wildlife presenter is also hosting ‘Surviving Jaws’ for Discovery around Shark Week this July. The show marks the 50th anniversary of the iconic movie, and dives into the most unforgettable scenes from the Jaws franchise to examine the shark behaviour exhibited by Hollywood’s most famous white shark and creating a guide to survive a shark attack..

He has been a regular face on British TV for the past fifteen years, bringing his unique style of presenting to audiences of all ages. The Blowfish is also the host of Ocean Wonders on the global wildlife network EarthxTV. This series brings the incredible world of water to you in a style only the Blowfish can!

He has also made numerous appearances on CBBC, including Blue Peter, Absolute Genius with Dick & Dom and How to be Epic at Everything. He also was the in-house wildlife expert on Sunday Brunch (Channel 4) and has summoned sharks on The One Show (BBC One). He has even appeared on the hit Discovery Canada show Daily Planet, giving advice on sharks and other creatures of the deep.

The son of a respected veterinary surgeon, The Blowfish learnt the value and beauty of animals from a young age and now he devotes himself to teaching the wonder of wildlife and the importance of conservation to young people. The subject closest to his heart, of course, is the sea. Always showing the utmost respect to the creature, but also exploring and explaining its most amazing features, The Blowfish can access a side of nature that no one else can.

Tom “The Blowfish” Hird’s debut book ‘Blowfish’s Oceanopedia’ about the hidden facts of the ocean, published by Atlantic is available now. He is also the Marine Conservation Society Ocean Ambassador, The Shark Trust UK Ambassador and is a PADI Dive Master and BSAC Dive Leader with over 20 years’ experience. He lives in Bristol with his wife and two dogs.
