Edfringe Comedy Review: Diona Doherty: Get Your Pink Back!

Diona Doherty is a cool mum. Donning a baby pink suit, Doherty shares how to get your ‘pink’ back after having children, like flamingos do.

Doherty puts her whole body into this performance; she is confident and polished.

Doherty shares what it is like to live through your single friend’s life, whilst you have five children and a husband of 10 years. The clever use of voice notes gives the audience an intimate look into the comedian and actor’s life, delivered with perfect comedic timing.

Although well-rehearsed, and well received by the audience, this show runs at a quick pace and sometimes needs a moment more for the viewer’s reaction.

There is some audience participation, which shows her quick wit and ability to make anything funny.

She modestly includes insight into her time on the tv show Britain and Ireland’s Next Top Model, providing behind the scenes insight which will interest fans of the show.

Threaded throughout Doherty’s guaranteed laughs are some more tender moments. The Northern Irish actor delves into her IVF journey and post-natal depression, speaking with dignity and sincerity. The change in mood allows the audience to see a whole new side of Doherty and adds a poignant tone to the show.

Doherty’s show allows mothers to be seen, and for others to offer them a new level of consideration. She creates a perfect balance between humour and humanity.
