Shinanne Higgins is all about her Irish culture, and her love life, or lack thereof, as she takes you through her 10 red flags that keep her happily single in her 40s. Some of these red flags include “being a notion”, “a raging feminist” and “A Hamchild”. If you’re Irish, you are more likely to take the red flags to heart than the rest of the audience.
Shinanne bursts her jokes out through the microphone, it’s slightly ear piercing for noon time, but it’s part of her character, which also includes pink hair, pink tights, pink dress, pink everything, really, including her complexion, hence the “Hamchild” red flag.
Random and loud seems to be a big part of Shinanne’s show. Shinanne involves the audience with red flags, taking turns reading out the phrases on each one. Or if you are like me, the flag was something to fiddle with the entire show. After announcing the different quotes on the flag, Shinanne sets off in a rant of numerous wacky stories that keep the audience entertained.
A little all around the place, Shinanne loses her way a couple of times and has to refer back to what I assume is a joke guide to put her back on track. This doesn’t put you off her comedy, though, as this forgetfulness comes across as either nerves or part of her personality.
Some jokes don’t quite land the way I think Shinanne expects; they are maybe a little too dark for a Monday, or her delivery doesn’t quite land with the audience. However, she has clever puns up her sleeve, which are planted within her stories, some of which are a bit of a stretch, but what comedian doesn’t lie or twist stories for a good laugh?
