Although she now lives in London, Alana is very much straight out of Glasgow; ‘I didn’t know you could go home after one drink’ she says after contrasting the drinking culture down South. Alanna has a lot of thoughts about escape rooms, pubs and Glasgow funerals.
Covering a broad range of topics, the gender differences on the TV show Sun Sex and Suspicious Parents, traumatic trips on the Glasgow to London Megabus, ‘charity work’, she keeps her routine moving like clockwork even if all the jokes don’t land.
Alana’s character performance is very impressive – transforming into the Angela of ‘Ask for Angela’ from the pub posters. Cool, calm, collected, walking out with a rockstar swagger demanding to know who asked for her. She even somehow manages to perfectly replicate a plastic bag flying in the wind.
There’s a weird pub quiz segment towards the end which feels like it’s there to fluff out time. It doesn’t do anything substantial and is a noticeable departure from the rest of the show. It slows down the momentum which is a shame.
