Ed Night protests a bit too much when he says he’s been avoiding writing, as Your Old Mucker is laid back delivery packed with writing. From a bequest of a high effort low yield scam on a premium shop from his Grandad, to fanciful ideas of guide dogs’ frustrations – welcome to Night’s world, he’s in yours and striding down the small aisle so as to immerse himself in the audience and make sure he includes those at the back.

With tangents and musings arranged around a light stroll in the life and neighbourhood of Night, there is no bigger message here, no dealing with grief or other trauma around his show – he’s clear. This is Night’s fifth Edinburgh run and it’s all about the jokes and the vibe. His is observational comedy for the zillenial, being harassed by the Duolingo owl and humorously bargaining with his estate agent for lower rent. There’s a low key common ground with his generation underlying it all, dropping ‘C’ bombs without fanfare and scanning the future of AI and medicine. He’s a cool guy, keeping him somewhat aloof in his delivery.

Your Old Mucker drifts through its laughs, the room rolling full of them, the show structure mimicking the aimless and enjoyed amble Night takes through his local shops, hanging out with the proprietors in good company.
