Edfringe Comedy Review: Gianmarco Soresi: The Drama King Tour

Diagnosed with ADHD by his girlfriend, Gianmarco has channelled his excess energy into comedy.  He’s campy, flamboyant and most importantly very funny – it’s easy to throw the word likeable around but Gianmarco definitely fits the bill.

He hates robots, vents to his therapist, and tries to navigate his girlfriend’s coriander ‘allergy’.  He has something to say about Zionism, ADHD meds (he’s scared to take them in case he loses his spark) and his dad’s love life and how this has unexpected consequences for Gianmarco.  Although easy territory, I feel he’s at his strongest when giving his insight on politics, the state of the US, Elon Musk etc as opposed to his personal anecdotes – the three-state solution comes to mind as a particularly funny gag.

To say he commands the room is an understatement, he has the room bellowing with his stories.  Using his background in musical theatre, Gianmarco is a real larger than life personality. He’s eccentric with his exaggerated body language, doing funny recreations of a robot waiter, a threesome and banging the wall behind him.

Telling us his story of gaining new female fans due to his dad’s Tinder profile he uses this to end the performance on a crude bit which involves audience interaction.  This is a bit on the weak side, especially with all the impressive material he presents beforehand.  But, at the same time it’s very on brand with the campy musical-theatre persona.
