Jade Franks is one to watch in this hilarious production about classism. Drawing on her own experience, Eat The Rich (but maybe not me mates x) scrutinizes what it is like to go from Liverpool to Cambridge University.
Eat The Rich starts in a call centre in Liverpool, where Franks knows she is destined for better. After a conversation with a customer, it becomes apparent that Cambridge University is the place to be.
Jade is a well-established character, with her iconic long acrylics and big false eyelashes. A hilarious moment sees when Jade tries to impress her new friends by dressing up for a night out, only to learn that it is more casual down south.
Franks captivates the audience throughout her show; she is a force to be reckoned with. She is an evidentially intelligent woman, as she sneaks in satirical jokes that are a hit with the crowd.
The show navigates the social inequality that Franks faces at the prestigious university. Franks must work alongside studying, something that is not allowed in college. She is suffers from other people’s prejudice and stereotypes during this time, which opens her eyes to a whole new world. Eat The Rich is a coming-of-age story, in which Franks must find her feet.
The Liverpudlian is navigates classism in 2025, through the lenses of a young person. She describes how it feels to slowly realise you are different to others, and how that is going to impact on your life. The show is witty and amusing, but also heartfelt and genuine, leaving you with tears in your eyes.
Eat The Rich is a rare gem of the Fringe, leaving you excited to see what Franks will conjure up next.
