Appearing in flashy out-of-this-world suits, Rich and Matt, the music comedy duo, take to the stage, and they’ve brought instruments, music lessons, air guitars and a very peculiar baby with them.

Rich and Matt bounce off of each other really well, constantly making the kids laugh at their antics. Rich tries to keep the show together and teach the kids about music, but Matt derails the show with air guitars, fart jokes, at times his bum, and his horrendous PowerPoint presentation.

Matt had “forgotten” about the PowerPoint in question and lazily put it together at the last minute, but in reality, it was far from this; the slides are filled with cleverly made puns. For example, using celebrities for musical terms: Oprah (opera), Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson – that one is self-explanatory, and the audience’s least favourite, Trump the Trumpet.

The clever puns throughout the show are more for the adults than the kids, with some 90s references thrown in now and again. Even though the kids don’t know what they are laughing at, the visuals and Matt’s silliness are enough to keep them entertained. Truly a show for the whole family.

Towards the end, we are introduced to the Audience Orchestra, a crab-squishing, triangle-dinging, burpy melody, yes, according to The Listies, burping is an instrument of the body. The kids selected for these special roles were grinning ear to ear (especially the ones in the position of “burpers”). The audience gets involved as well, as Matt conducts their clapping and dancing in beat with the music.

The show is a fresh take on a traditional kids’ music show. The music is not a lullaby sing-along but almost feels like a kids’ rave. Everyone is up on their feet bouncing about, and the kids seem to love the show’s flashy visuals and electro bass music that The Listies are blasting out.

The Listies: Make Some Noise 11.30, Assembly George Square, until August 25 (not 13th or 18th-22nd)
