On Wednesday 12 November 2025, Brighton’s internationally acclaimed street artist duo The Postman will unveil a large-scale mural transforming the hoardings of the New NHS Sussex Cancer Centre on Eastern Road. Three preview images have already been shared, offering a tantalising glimpse of what is to come, but the full work will only be revealed at the official unveiling.
The project is part of the Nature of Healthcare initiative, launched in partnership with My Charity University Hospitals Sussex. Bold, vivid and instantly recognisable, The Postman’s pop-art style will wrap around the building site, bringing art, wildlife and community together in a landmark piece that promises to inspire hope and connection for everyone who passes.
For The Postman, who are known for blending photography, collage, paste-ups and spray paint, this commission marks a return to their hometown with work that is both playful and deeply resonant. The anonymous duo have built an international reputation, with murals and collaborations spanning commissions for Noel Gallagher and the Bob Marley Foundation, as well as partnerships with photographers such as Adrian Boot, David LaChapelle and Dave Hogan. Their works have been exhibited at the Saatchi Gallery and featured by outlets from the BBC to LA Weekly.
Most recently, the pair have been developing a series of animal-inspired works exploring themes of rewilding and reflection. Speaking about their upcoming hospital mural, they explained, “We’re excited to be progressing with our hospital artwork and developing a range of concepts. The Honey I Shrunk the Kids series flips scale to show the natural world as vital and deserving of care, while our Portals series creates magical gateways that invite curiosity and imagination. Our Portraits series of bold animal works injects vibrancy and energy into the space. We want this project to inspire hope and connection for everyone who passes by.”
The Nature of Healthcare exhibition will remain in place throughout 2025 and 2026 before being auctioned piece by piece, with all proceeds supporting the My Charity appeal to enhance facilities in the new Cancer Centre. Steve Crump OBE, Director of Charities & Voluntary Services at My Charity, said, “We’re delighted to be working with The Postman on this incredible initiative. This will see the hoardings of the New Sussex Cancer Centre emblazoned as never before. It brings together art, wildlife and the community in support of cancer care. A truly creative innovation in support of a vital cause.”
The New NHS Sussex Cancer Centre, set to open in 2029, will be nearly five times larger than the current site and will bring together all vital cancer services under one roof. Serving a population of 2 million and providing care for more than 60,000 patients annually, it will also offer specialist treatment for rarer and more complex cancers.
Since its formation in April 2023, My Charity has already funded a wide range of projects across Sussex hospitals, from a new birthing pool at the Royal Sussex County Hospital to the installation of Savi Scout consoles to improve breast cancer surgery, the purchase of Trans-nasal Endoscopes for faster and more comfortable procedures, the £1.75 million Da Vinci Xi Robot Arm for advanced surgical precision, and the creation of dedicated wellbeing spaces for staff. The unveiling of The Postman’s mural is one of the first initiatives in a broader campaign to support the Cancer Centre, its patients and the NHS teams who care for them.
As the full artwork is prepared to be revealed in November, anticipation is building not only for a bold new piece of Brighton street art, but also for the symbolic beginning of a project that will transform cancer care across Sussex.
