Q&A: ANASTÁZIE on Freedom, Love, and the Making of “Kiss & Let Go”

With a sound that glides effortlessly between smooth R&B, Afrobeat rhythms, and the rich textures of jazz, ANASTÁZIE is redefining what it means to be an artist on the rise. The Czech-Armenian singer, songwriter, and co-producer brings a striking sense of authenticity to her music — a reflection of her multicultural roots and fearless approach to creativity. Her latest single, “Kiss & Let Go,” is a shimmering anthem of freedom, love, and self-expression, capturing the thrill of independence and the joy of embracing life’s uncertainties. Now based in London, where she moved at just 17 to chase her dreams, ANASTÁZIE is crafting a genre-defying sound that’s as empowering as it is intoxicating. We sat down with her to talk about her journey, inspirations, and the story behind her new release.

How did your musical project/band first start? Is there a story to tell about it?

My newest project “Kiss & Let go” started as a beat that my producer and I created during summer. I had an idea of making a light, moving song that is very groovy but has a certain depth into it. As soon as I’ve heard the afrobeat pattern, the deep bass and piano solo I’ve started writing the lyrics and playing around with the melody. I wanted to make the record fun, sexy, flirty and empowering.

What was your first gig?

My first solo gig was in London, when I was 17 studying at the Music university. We’ve had an end of the term showcases where I’ve performed in front of the whole uni, professors and friends.

How have your music/live performances been received by fans?

It’s a great gift to be able to perform in front of the people who care about you and listen to your music. Every time that I perform, I feel extremely happy and fulfilled, seeing how my listeners receive my performances makes the whole process very personal and energetic.

What three words best describe your musical style and why?

I would say the 3 words would be experimental, unique and powerful. I would choose those 3 words because I’ve done many different styles of music and I’m open to experimenting with my sound, lyrics and beats. The whole journey for me was unique because of a such a young age when I’ve started to pursue my career, because it was in London which was very far away from home. The uniqueness is in my backgrounds, in the places I grew up and you can feel all that in my art. And I believe that creating something from scratch is powerful because that takes a lot of commitment and hard work. It’s a physical, emotional and psychological creation that represents me as an artist.

Who are your biggest musical influences?

I would say that my biggest influences were old school rnb artists and jazz singers. Both styles are very close to my heart and because of that it has an influence on my music. I love Aretha Franklin, Nina Simone, Ray Charles.

Tell us about your new release.

Kiss & Let go is a mixture of many different sounds and messages. It’s an afrobeat pattern that makes people want to move and dance to it, there’s a jazzy and groovy bass line and piano that fills up the whole record making it complete, there also is a lyrical aspect that talks about love, youth and empowerment. Even saying “I wanna kiss & let go” can see quite straightforward and bold and that’s exactly what I’ve wanted to achieve with this. It’s an empowering, fun and sexy record.

What inspires your lyrics?

It’s always different with my lyrics, the main inspiration comes from what I’m going through in that moment or something that I’ve felt. I get inspired by other people, by their stories, by every little details that comes and goes from my life. Sometimes there is a situation that I have in my mind and I need to write it down and sometimes I get inspired by the beat itself. In the case of “kiss & let go” I got inspired by the instrument and the drum patter in the beat, which made me want to write something flirty but relatable.

How do you hope listeners will feel after hearing your music?

I hope my listeners would feel whatever they wanted to feel in that moment. I hope my music makes them happy when they’re feeling a bit down, I hope it makes them dance and sing along to, I hope my music allows them to be themselves no matter of the circumstances. I genuinely hope that my listeners feel joy and can relate to my lyrics as well as can just relax and have fun while listening.

Do you have any upcoming tour dates?

I’m definitely thinking about an upcoming tour, I think it would be a great opportunity to perform in different places for different people all around, and I already know that I would enjoy it very much. I don’t have the dates yet, but it’s definitely something that’s on my mind.

What are you/your band working on next?

I have many new projects lined up, which is very exciting. I will have different features with hip hop artists from both the UK and the Czech Republic, as well as my own projects. There’s gonna be a lot of new and experimental sound, which I’m excited to share with everyone soon.
