Edfringe Comedy Review: Demi Adejuyigbe Sells Out

This comedic musical show is packed with original songs. The audience is thrown right into the deep end with a ‘Rockstar Santa Claus’ song that quickly leads into a more family friendly ‘Scary Witches Monster Party’. Adejuyigbe manages to perform both numbers completely deadpan (somehow!).

He has travelled to Scotland from the US with his show in the hope to “Sell Out” and that’s exactly what he does. He sold out to different companies in his hometown that were willing to help fund his trip. Throughout the performance he advertises the various companies, for example, for a personalised t-shirt company he wears one of their t-shirts that details his plane food order in case he falls asleep on the journey over!

He also has another segment of the show called ‘Prolly Just a Tweet’ where he reads out cringe worthy jokes that could quite literally just be a Tweet while a member of the audience throws tomatoes at him. These skits are extremely effective at breaking up the show while keeping the audience’s full and devoted attention.

One of my favourite parts was the appearance of Robbie the Robot, an AI friend who spent most of his time doing ‘audience work’ to try and figure out what jokes will land best. What is particularly funny about this is that he lacks any kind of steering mechanisms which means he has to do eight point turns whenever he wants to approach an audience member.

As an avid Halloween lover myself, I thoroughly enjoy both the ‘Scary Witches Monster Party’ and ‘Dracula on the Beach’ renditions. And no doubt, they will be flying around my head for a while now.

Demi Adejuyigbe Sells out, 18:45, Queen Dome at Pleasance Dome, 5th – 30th (not the 17th)
