There is a particular pleasure in watching a comedian turn the things that make him different into the very things that make him funny. Evaldas Karosas does exactly that, mining his Lithuanian upbringing, his thick accent and the awkwardness of performing in a second language for a consistently sharp and entertaining hour.
Karosas explores the cultural differences between growing up in Lithuania and growing up in the West, finding absurdity in the gaps between the two without ever forcing the material. His observations on relationships, break-ups and men’s mental health add substance beneath the comedy. At the same time, his willingness to make his own language difficulties part of the joke gives the set a distinctive edge. His accent becomes an unlikely comic weapon. Karosas jokes that his material would be considerably funnier if the audience could actually understand everything he says. The irony, of course, is that he is already very funny.

There is a confidence to Karosa’s performance, he remains grounded and relaxed, allowing the material to do the work, with a great amount of material, Karosas delivers a thoroughly enjoyable hour.
