Edfringe Comedy Review: Jake Baker: The Gentle Men’s Club

This comedy show is an hour of warm and calming comedy. If you’re a fan of Andrew Tate and believe men are the born rulers of the world, this show definitely isn’t for you (and not any Fringe shows, for that matter). Jake Baker invites you to join his Gentle Men’s Club, breaking down barriers and ideologies of hierarchy and systems that are built to benefit men while preventing women from uplifting themselves equally in society.

Jake gives you his opinion on the “manosphere” and its stupidity, involving political figures such as Donald Trump and Elon Musk. When everything feels a little too serious, he brings out his book of facts about animals, which nicely breaks the tension. His soft demeanour is very inviting. The show bounces from a strong argument for feminism to the public being randomly picked to perform at the Olympics.

Throughout the show, he does a great job of weaving in and out of the serious and the silly. Near the end, he reads We’re Going on a Bear Hunt, with the audience helping him finish the last line of each page, which he has cleverly edited himself. I feel his stage presence could be more confident, although he didn’t miss a chance to make me laugh.

Jake Baker: The Gentle Men’s Club, 13:15 at Hoot 4 at Hoots at The Apex at 1:15pm from August 7-17th – 19-31st
