It’s important to preface this review by saying that there are absolutely no words that can be strung together to do this performance justice. Lil Wenker and Cecily Nash have put together a sensational show which forces laughs even when the audience knows that any sudden movement or noises could bring them into the ridiculous show. Wenker’s crowd work confidence is incredible, willing to make anyone in attendance at the show either hand over their belongings (sometimes clothes) or come on stage to be spanked, each time successfully.
The show follows Prince Wilfried, who goes on to murder his entire bloodline with one goal in view: become king. Along the way there are some brilliant original songs, including a rap performed in the character of the former king, accompanied by some energetic tap dancing. It cannot be stressed enough just how good the audience interaction and fourth wall breaking is in the performance, with even minor production mistakes playing into the hilarity of it all. Wenker’s versatility is on full display here, the talent to take on the role of multiple characters keeps the plot intact and offers even more to laugh at. I was even told off for my lack of respect after laughing at the death of a character, which left me quite on edge until the end of the show.
The use of props and the minimalist set is brilliant. Prince Wilfried is one of the funniest clowns around at the moment and he is not to be missed, unless you’re wanting to be the next one up the tower…
