Frost’s magic show takes place in one of the most intimate spaces on the Edinburgh Fringe, thus giving very little space for error or blatantly obvious trickery. As we all know there is no such thing as actual magic. Although when we are in an audience, perhaps we want to believe just a little bit that we have just experienced a moment of true magic.
Frost is clearly a very clever magician in the true sense of the word. And gone are the days of a presentation of elevator music with a glamorous female assistant, drawing us in with highly technical smoke and mirrors. That style always required the presence of expensive and sophisticated props and set.
Frost has his own style, drawing on parts of his life story and weaving it into his show. And he has very little in the way of props, set or even sound and lighting cues. It’s very minimal in style, to the point that he could almost have just arrived at your birthday party to bring some entertainment for your party guests. The presentation element of the show just seems somewhat ordinary, whereas the magic itself is very good. If you’d like to see a charming chap doing lots of clever card tricks, then this show is for you.
