This sharp, refreshing original musical is all about the way political differences can get in the way of friendship – or even love.
The story follows Dylan (Ross Jamieson) and Paige (Abbie Lois), who meet through online dating and immediately hit it off. There is, however, one problem: Dylan is not entirely truthful about his political views. As the relationship develops, he meets Paige’s family and ‘woke’ friends before the pair eventually move to London together. It is there that the cracks begin to show, as their opposing beliefs become very difficult to hide.
The show has plenty of fun with modern political culture, particularly the way people can bend or conceal their beliefs in an attempt to feel accepted or find love. Its four-strong cast, including Edan Glennie and Danielle Claire O’Hare, brings plenty of energy to the characters, alongside original songs that were incredibly inventive and often very funny.
The writing is the production’s greatest strength, balancing political satire with a surprisingly genuine relationship story. The singing and dancing brings great energy to the performance, and it all adds up to an enjoyable, inventive musical with plenty to say.
