Planet of the Grapes follows an American Astronaut, George Taylor, who crash-lands on a far-off planet thousands of years in the future. Only this planet has no humans, but instead, George finds that this planet is ruled by grapes! He must try to escape this planet in this wonderfully silly theatrical show, a family-friendly story swapping apes for grapes.
Audience participation is paramount throughout this performance, with snowballs fired across the room, paper aeroplanes launched by audience members, and human body parts making an appearance. The story itself is narrated by two puppeteers, who use a collection of DIY props to bring each scene to life. This is one of the silliest shows I have seen at the Fringe; one moment to remember is casting an audience member to read George’s court hearing.
This is incredibly imaginative; the performers Peter Michael Marino and Cecilia Arana bring a sense of fun and create a warm and very welcoming atmosphere from the moment you step inside. It may not be for everyone, but it provides a great laugh and a light-hearted hour, proving the fact that sometimes grapes really can rule the world.
