Edfringe Theatre Review: Fake

This is a highly entertaining show, from Chris Cook, which combines stunning magic, standup and an inter-woven story – a thoroughly prepared recipe mixed with a hint of deception.

Some of Cook’s story is autobiographical, however one can’t help but wonder how much is true and how much could be part of a modern day fable. Come along, and expect to be involved in some way, though there is no pressure. This experience is a fully relaxed safe place, however keep hold of your wallet.

Cook gives his audience a different take on how to view fakes, forgery, lies and deception. Though as he confesses it may not be actual magic, it’s all about the making of magic and the presentation – that’s what makes magic entertaining. And Cook has certainly found his own style. There may be some influences from some of the greats, however this show (and also his new show Heist – a show about art crime) both bear the trademark of a solid entertainer.

Fake, 13,40, The Den, Gilded Balloon Teviot, until August 31
