Loren Heat: That Feeling When You’re Nervous and Want More

Lauren Heat

Loren Heat’s first single Want It All was released in July and is about admitting your feelings for someone and feeling vulnerable. Here the artist talks to Entertainment Now about what’s next.

Hey Loren! Can you introduce yourself? What can we expect from your music?

Of course, my name is Loren and I am a pop singer/songwriter from the north east of England. I love to write about life events whether it be relationships, mental health, loss etc. I want to try (on most occasions) and take these events and make them into something that you can listen to without crying, some good old pop music if you will.

Sum up your new single ‘Want It All’ in three words for us!

‘Want It All’ is about falling in love. But not the butterfly feeling that you see in RomComs. But that vulnerable scared yet excited feeling that it usually is, that feeling when you can’t speak, you’re nervous but you want more.

Where are you from? Is it a big part of who you are as an artist?

I’m from a town in the north east of England called Middlesbrough. I wouldn’t say it’s a huge part of who I am as an artist as I don’t tend to write much about it. But I love the music community here, there’s so many people who want to see each other succeed and I think that’s encouragement and that community has helped shape me as an artist for sure.

Why is your single ‘Want it All’ not your typical love song?

I’d say it’s because it’s not your typical happy and whimsical feel, it’s the more gritty side, when you have this wall up the idea of falling in love is terrifying, like a free fall almost. You don’t want to, but you can’t help it. I wanted to capture that essence, being scared of the vulnerability but always wanting more.

What has been the reception to your new work so far?

It’s been really good! I showed it to my friends and family because they’re incessant when it comes to new music of mine, they want to hear it straight away and they loved it, there’s different favourites but as for the new stuff the reception has been so heartwarming. I’m very grateful!

What are you like as a live artist?

I’m not totally sure what to say without blowing my own trumpet. I’d like to say if you come to a show you can expect strong vocals, good music and a gossip session. I love to natter between tracks. I personally think if I’m just playing tracks back to back I’m not allowing myself to get to know my audience and they’re not getting to know me and I don’t want that.

Who are your biggest musical influences?

Definitely a lot of your typical “Gay Pop” artists in terms of sound, the likes of Lady Gaga, Slayyyter, Kesha, Dua Lipa etc. but I also take a lot from Billie Eilish, Renee Rapp, Lana Del Rey I think there’s so many talented artists to draw inspo from!

What’s next for you in 2024?

An EP, there’s an EP very very soon. And I’m also very fond of the idea of music videos so definitely keep an eye out on socials because If anything is happening it will no doubt be there first.
