Melody Briar explores grief, memory and the changing nature of loss on her new single, “The Intangible Man.”
The evocative track offers another glimpse into Briar’s forthcoming debut album, Green Aventurine, a project centred on grief, love, vulnerability, memory and impermanence.
Built around sweeping strings, textured acoustic guitar and atmospheric production, “The Intangible Man” expands Briar’s sound while retaining the intimate songwriting that has become central to her work. The song reflects on what happens after someone dies, as a person who once felt tangible gradually becomes part of memory, family stories and personal mythology.
Briar uses vivid imagery to consider how grief can alter our relationship with those we have lost. The track moves between quieter, intimate passages and broader moments of emotional intensity, giving the song a cinematic quality without losing its personal focus.
“The Intangible Man” forms part of the wider emotional world of Green Aventurine, which Briar began developing following a period of profound personal loss. The album finds her turning difficult experiences into songs about death, guilt, love, remembrance and healing.
A classically trained musician, Briar studied piano, voice and classical repertoire before turning increasingly towards original songwriting. The piano remains at the centre of her creative process, providing the starting point for each song and informing her approach to composition and storytelling.
Her music draws on elements of contemporary alternative and indie pop, alongside classical influences and atmospheric production. While listeners may find points of connection with artists including Phoebe Bridgers, Lana Del Rey, Caroline Polachek and The Cranberries, Briar’s work is shaped by her own approach to intimate, emotionally direct songwriting.
With “The Intangible Man,” Briar continues to establish the musical and emotional territory of Green Aventurine, offering a reflective new chapter in the story of her forthcoming debut album.
