German songwriter and producer Oliver Bach realeased the single ‘Break from Myself’ on 13 May, the latest in a string of releases.
Written while locked down during the pandemic, the song captures the feeling of being home alone. But, rather than this being a lonely experience, Bach lifts up his eyes to the possibility of breaking out, as we party, relax and escape the sense of isolation created by covid.
We chat to Oliver about music influences and motives, as well as upcoming releases for 2022…
We are almost halfway through 2022, how has this year been for you so far?
It has started very well and I sense a spirit of optimism after the last two years. I’m looking forward to what’s to come.
How would you describe yourself in three words?
Reliable, interested, cosmopolitan.
How did you get into your current career?
I’ve always loved music, it’s part of me and I always knew that I wanted to do it as a career. It’s important to me to share thoughts on social issues, my thoughts and feelings with others in my music.
How would you describe your work?
Electronic music with melody.
What do you want people to take away from it?
Beautiful moments, because everyone associates music with special memories.
What inspires you and who are your influences?
My music is inspired by my current life and my surroundings. I process my emotional world in my music. The synthypop music from the 80s has influenced me the most. At the moment the music from artists like ARTBAT, CamelPhat, Adriatique. and the sound from labels like Afterlife, Diynamic and Anjunadeep inspired me.
Who are you listening to at the moment?
The last music I listened to was the Steyoyoke Anniversary Vol. 10 sampler and I try to listen to as much new Melodic House & Techno releases as possible. I also listen frequently to a lot of different styles of music, to hear what is going on outside my bubble. It’s important to get inspiration from outside the box.
What advice would you give to your younger self?
Nobody is waiting for you, be yourself and don’t try to copy anyone else.
What’s next for you? What are you most excited for?
My next release ‘Sinteno Tu Reperation’ will be out on 10 June. It has a summery feeling sound with some italo disco influences.
Currently I am working on a new song called ‘Love Bring Us Together’. At songwriting I was strongly influenced by the images of the Ukraine-Russia conflict. Whenever I turned on the TV, social media, I saw images and videos of violence and destruction.
I’m looking forward to how my new song will be liked and what the year brings – it’s exciting. I think it’s going to be a great year.
