If you have a say in who the next Prime Minister of Great Britain is, then this show may not be for you. Alistair Barrie provides an absolutely stunning hour of political comedy, discussing the current climate of Britain, and no, not just 1976.
Barrie has a clear aversion to the Tory party, and this should come as no shock considering the last twelve years they have put us through. His way with words is profound and he hilariously dismantles every party member through some wonderfully cutting satire. What is brilliant is when this satirical comedy becomes moot due to the outlandish actions of these politicians who make themselves such a joke that Barrie merely needs to observe. This is the core of Barrie’s show, that these buffoons have been making such a mess of things that we may as well vote for him – how could it possibly get any worse?
This twenty-year veteran of the comedy scene has a well-established style that simply works. He is eloquent and confident, conveying his points nicely before catching you off-guard with some outrageously funny jokes. He isn’t afraid to push the boundaries of crude absurdism, but it’s never in vain, instead Barrie utilises it to perfectly build to a side-splitting punchline. Barrie may indeed rant and rave but he’s just letting off a bit of steam. I was surprised by the amount of music I saw, and while Barrie may not be hitting the charts anytime soon, it’s a wonderful way to switch things up and keep his political comedy upbeat.
Barrie relentlessly mocks the posh and this even includes his own parents from the Isle of White. His takedown of people’s strange aversion to the woke generation is brilliantly refreshing. And while he may say some crazy things about his own kids, they are in great hands with the exceedingly clever Alistair Barrie.
This is political comedy at its finest. It’s pointed, witty and downright hilarious. Please go see this show and vote for Alistair Barrie as our next PM, it literally cannot get worse.
