Cleaver & Wake
Part of Nottingham’s Island Quarter regeneration project, Cleaver & Wake is a new, modern British restaurant led by Laurence Henry, winner of MasterChef: The Professionals in 2018. Named after two Victorian lace dressers who worked on the original site, the restaurant prides itself on local and seasonal sourcing.
Laurence Henry said: “I’m really passionate about good quality British produce and that’s reflected in every dish on the menu… Seasonality goes hand-in-hand with home-grown ingredients, as we are sourcing them at their peak of flavour. This will give diners the best version of each dish we make.”
Dishes offered from the open plan kitchen include oxtail with a hollandaise sauce, English wasabi, burnt leek and smoked bone marrow; hand-dived Orkney scallop served with BBQ confit chicken wings and roasted corn salsa; plus spiced Cornish crab salad served with watermelon and radish.

The Waterside Café
This may not be the ideal time to launch a café which features al fresco dining as one of its key attractions. This has not stopped The Waterside Café in Regent’s Park from welcoming guests. Located in one of London’s eight Royal Parks, the lakeside venue has menus developed by former Great British Menu chef Chris Holland. The day starts with menu items such as Cumberland sausage in a morning roll or smashed avocado with chilli flakes and lime. Lunch might a lamb burger, flat bread pizza or a pitta stuffed with mushroom, spinach and hummus.
Naturally, the new operation takes its environmental responsibilities seriously. The cafe’s Grab and Go fridges are completely free of non-compostable and recyclable plastics and all takeaway packaging, including cups, lids and food boxes are 100% compostable. The picnic tables by the lake will prove popular on sunny days.

Notto Pasta Bar
Michelin-starred chef Phil Howard has opened a new pasta restaurant on London’s Piccadilly. Having started his career with the Roux brothers and worked for Marco Pierre White at Harvey’s before going on to launch his own restaurant, The Square, Howard has long operated at the more rarefied end of London’s restaurant scene.
The all-day, 74-cover restaurant will have an open kitchen and Chef Howard claims that its aim is simple: “To bring pleasure to fellow Londoners by sharing authentic pasta dishes in a relaxed fun environment, at a price that is accessible to all.”
Originally called Otto, the new venture became Notto after a name clash with another business. Howard’s other restaurants include the Michelin-starred Elystan Street and Kitchen W8.
