The Great Escape Festival Reviews

Mia Wray

The Great Escape Festival returned to the coastline and city of Brighton this May. The Great Escape is the festival for new music, presenting 500 emerging artists from across the world. It’s a fantastic way to discover your favourite new artist in an intimate setting before they go on to perform at major festival stages.

Below are two reviews from talented artists who stood out from the crowd.

Mia Wray | The Hope & Ruin – The Great Escape

I entered the venue cold without hearing Mia’s before, I was astounded by both her cool but tuneful pop songs and insane vocals. All the tunes could be singles notably the first four tracks  ‘Work For Me’, ‘Stay Awake’, ‘Rerun’ and ‘Monster Brain’.

With the confidence of an arena artist, the Aussie singer blew the roof off the place. A superstar is born.

The Rubens | Beach Stage

Already massive in their homeland this 5 alt-rock band take to the stage for Australia Sounds in a huge tent on the beach, and they manage fill it with both their sound and people! From Menangle, Australia, this incredible band comprises the three Margin brothers, Zaac, Sam and Elliott, and friends Scott Baldwin and William Zeglis. The singer, Sam, is a total star and chats to the audience as if they were in his front room.

Their songs are sing along anthems that are both cool and accessible. They perform brand new songs including the newly released and brilliant single ‘Pets & Drugs’. They also play a track called ‘Masterpiece’ which says it all really. Stadiums await.
