We recently got the chance to speak with Scott McGlynn; author podcaster, activist and lifestyle influencer, about how he got his start and what’s next for him in his flourishing career.

Scott started his first lifestyle and fashion blog in 2015. Featuring product reviews, opinion pieces and celebrity interviews, the blog paved the way for Scott’s autobiography, Out, which chronicled his struggles coming out, being bullied over his sexuality, and finding love.

In 2017, Scott created his eponymous show, a podcast combining celebrity interviews and real-life stories of people from the LGBTQ+ community. The podcast was very successful, reaching the top 5 on the UK iTunes podcast chart;  Scott’s interview subjects include Perez Hilton, Craig Kelly, Johann Hari and Ashley James; in 2020 he launched a new series on IGTV, Celebrity Skin Talks. Scott himself had suffered with acne as a teenager and the series combines two of his passions – skincare and celebrity. In a frank series of interviews he has spoken to Tamzin Outhwwaite, Michelle Collins, Mary Fitzgerald, Amanza Smith, Natalia Tena, Suzanna Shaw and Lucy Spraggan.

Scott is also known for sharing skin tips/tutorials, fashion and lifestyle content via his official Instagram account and has collaborated with brands including NowTv, SkinCeuticals, Dermalogica, Vichy, Huawei, Elemis, IT Cosmetics, ASOS, Bobbi Brown, Coca-Cola and BoohooMan.

‘I used to wear make-up to hide my insecurities and still suffer from breakouts and redness to this day, but I am so much more comfortable in my own skin. I wanted to help other people and that is why I started being “me”… and began giving honest product reviews and being more open about things.’

Q: We are almost half way through 2021, how has this year been for you so far?

A: This year has been incredible, I haven’t stopped being a creator you never stop its a 365 day job, I wouldn’t want it any other way I have so much lined up for 2021-2022 its going to be epic!

q: How did you get into your current career?

A: I get this question a lot, I started off releasing my memoir in 2016 from there I just created shows which I’m thankful people enjoy, and instagram it just took off for me, I think at the time it wasnt many men sharing skin stories and skin tips, I was lucky, and now starting my acting career its just unbelievable amazing!!

q: How would you describe your work?

A: For me Im very open, Ive talked about my school experience, skin problems and when people see me they know its the truth, work for me is being honest, open and relatable to others, thats what I love to do, were all human and sharing stories and experiences is the way to be for sure.

q: What do you want people to take away from it?

A: For my skin journey people enjoyed the point of view from a guys side, and I created IGTV series Celebrity Skin Talk bring to peoples knowledge that we can be famous and still have skin problems, were not made a different way to others we are still human, the show brings how real we are.

q: What inspires you and who are your influences?

A: I have many people who inspires me from a acting side Ian McKellan, Luke Evans, Sebastian Stan, Scott Vickers inspire me hugly, when I started my podcast Anna Faries was a inspiration to me, Online I have my personal favourites but I try not to pay to much attention what they are doing because I want to make it my own and not copy anyone, I rubbish on keeping on video trends.

q: What advice would you give to your younger self?

A: I would say to speak up for myself, be confident! I suffered from depression, confidence till i was 21 that was 10 years of my life being the shy kid, never speaking up. Still till this day I suffer from big groups of people and I get so nervous.

Q: What’s next for you? What are you most excited for?

A: I just done a 4 days acting retreat in Manchester with director and actor Scott Vickers which was incredible! I have some films in the works which we be starting to film June/July, I’m just excited to travel the UK again see my friends in Cheshire and London the events calendar is starting to get full again which I cant wait for! My acting for the next few years will be the main thing of mine, Im in talks with a few producers.

We can’t wait to see where Scott McGlynn’s career takes him next! Stay up to date with all his work on his website and socials.
