Continuing our reviews at SWXW conference and festivals, Let’s delve into what we saw and loved on day 5.

Bones and Jones

Melodic Melbourne-based alt-guitar acts with elements of the country who are making waves in their homeland and are set to take their music internationally! Beautifully crafted songs alongside interesting guitar riffs and 3 amazing vocalists sharing the duties make these stand out.

Rating: 5 stars

YB

Incredible alt-indie pop solo act with songs to die for! Blew the audience away! He has a chance at global success.

Rating: 5 Stars

Collatura

Twangy alt guitar female fronted act who perform seamless songs with strong choruses that can be sung for days!

Rating: 4.5 stars

Boy With Apple

This Swedish 4-piece is a stunning indie pop act. Their dark intriguing songs shine even if the sun doesn’t on this outside stage. Low fi with sweet melodies. They end on a song called ‘Strawberry Boy’ – clearly a band that loves their fruit!

Rating: 4 stars

Marissa Burwell

Musically akin to bands like The Cranberries without the annoying vocals. Marissa performs understated but beautifully constructed songs. ‘Francis’ is cool and catchy surely a single?! ‘A Coward’ is also a winner taken from her latest EP ‘Either Way’. The final track ‘Scaredy Cat’ has a tinge of alt country about it. A promising future lies ahead for this young artist.

Rating: 4 stars

K Williams

Young messy guitar alt-rock. Cool charismatic frontman but needs vocal training. One song was a cross between Green Day and The Killers but they are definitely a work in progress.

Rating: 3.5 stars

Connor McClaren

The distinctive baby-faced indie solo artist plays melodic pop rock with flair.

Rating: 4 Stars

MISS KANNINA

Belonging to the oldest living culture in the world this First Nation Australian is a unique proposition. She wears her heart on her sleeve and vocalises her heritage strongly and with passion. She performs her first single ‘Black Brittany’ which is hard hard-hitting pop urban track with a strong message. She continues to deliver songs with strong messages from mental abuse ‘My Bad’ to suicide ‘Heavy’. She mixes hip-hop, soul and pop throughout her set. She’s an amazing Tasmanian devil superstar.

Rating: 5 stars
