Music: Heal Me Good: New From Yufu

Yufu, the emerging Soul and Funk artist hailing from Taiwan and Japan, steps boldly into 2025 with the release of his debut album, ‘Heal Me Good’. Dropping under Amsterdam-based Zip Records, this record is a testament to Yufu’s dedication to crafting authentic, warm sounds that echo the golden era of 70s soul while injecting his unique, modern flair.

Influenced by Motown greats and psychedelic melodies, Yufu’s musical roots run deep with admiration for icons like Curtis Mayfield, Willie Hutch, Barry White, and Eddie Kendricks. After independently releasing his debut EP, To My Penpal, in 2021 and captivating audiences with a live session at Yuchen Studio in Taipei in 2023, Yufu has garnered a substantial following on Spotify, priming fans for this momentous release.

He says: “With ‘Heal Me Good’, I wanted to explore a sound that’s cold and pleading yet warm and also inviting. Love is hurting and healing, getting addicted and cured at the same time. I wanted to make a sensual track for lovers to be drowned in and ultimately forget about everything.”

‘Heal Me Good’ is a sonic journey through ten tracks, each rich with groove-laden basslines, hook-heavy melodies, and heartfelt lyricism. Yufu uses the metaphor of medicine and addiction to explore the healing and intoxicating emotions found in relationships. The title track and lead single, ‘Heal Me Good’, is a retro, 70s-infused anthem that blends soulful grooves with poignant storytelling—an auditory balm that soothes and uplifts.

Echoing the spirit of artists like Jalen Ngonda, Kelly Finnigan, and Leon Bridges, Yufu’s soulful, raspy voice and self-produced arrangements breathe new life into the genre. From the infectious percussion to the smooth guitar licks and dynamic basslines, every element feels genuine, transporting listeners back to soul’s golden age while staying fresh and relevant in today’s musical landscape.
Yufu’s ‘Heal Me Good’ is a needed soul revival, a celebration of timeless soul for modern ears. Prepare to be healed, one groove at a time.
