Music: New Direction for June6Xteen

Nineteen-year-old Canadian June6Xteen already has almost ten years experience in the music industry – after beginning her career at the age of nine as a contestant on a tv talent show.

Her album Me Myself and I is a declaration of independence, embracing a new sound which merges drum and bass elements with rich synth textures and unforgettable melodies.

The Great Escape Reviews: Saturday

How did your musical project/band first start? Is there a story to tell about it?

My musical journey began at 9 years old when I had the incredible opportunity to participate in The Voice Kids Canada. That experience ignited my passion for performing and made me fall in love with being on stage. It was then that I realized music was what I wanted to pursue as a career, and I’ve been committed to doing whatever it takes to achieve that dream ever since.

What was your first gig?

After The Voice Kids Canada, my first gigs were at the Bell Centre in Montreal (20,000 seats) and the Videotron Centre in Quebec City (19,000 seats) as part of The Voice Kids tour. It was a massive audience for 9-year-old little me, but the rush I felt on stage was unforgettable and only confirmed that this was what I wanted to do for the rest of my life.

How have your music/live performances been received by fans?

My music and live performances have been incredibly well received by fans, which means the world to me. So far, I’ve been fortunate to sell out most of my shows, and the energy from the audience has been amazing every time. Seeing the crowd sing along and connect with my songs is such an incredible feeling—it’s the kind of energy that inspires me to keep giving my all on stage.

What three words best describe your musical style and why?

“Heartfelt, emotional, and empowering” truly reflect my music because I focus on writing songs that come from the heart, sharing raw emotions and experiences. My goal is to create uplifting music that resonates deeply with listeners, making them feel understood and less alone. At the same time, I want my songs to inspire strength and self-confidence, helping others feel empowered in their own journeys. These three words capture the essence of what I aim to convey through my music

.
Who are your biggest musical influences?

Christina Aguilera, Tate McRae, Billie Eilish, Charlotte Cardin, Jessie Murph, Aretha Franklin, Whitney Houston

Tell us about your new release.

“Me Myself & I,” is a fierce declaration of self-confidence and independence. The song’s bold lyrics reflect the urge to rise above criticism, ignore unsolicited opinions, and stay true to your own path. A defiant anthem of resilience and self-reliance, “Me Myself & I” is an empowering declaration for anyone determined to forge their own way in the world.

What inspires your lyrics?

Being an artist isn’t always easy, and there are times when people don’t see art as a legitimate career. Throughout my journey, I’ve faced comments from people who dismissed music as just a hobby and doubted that I could make it my career. This song serves as a reminder that, despite the challenges or opinions of others, we all have the power to shape our own future if we stay focused, work hard, and stop letting others’ voices dictate what we can achieve or not.

How do you hope listeners will feel after hearing your music?

I hope that listeners will embrace their own strength and find empowerment in the struggles and triumphs they face.

Do you have any upcoming tour dates?

I’m having “Me Myself & I” Videoclip Launch Showcase on Jan 30th, 2025 in Montreal. And my team and I are currently working on the booking of other dates for summer 2025.

What are you/your band working on next?

I’m currently finishing my 3rd EP!!
