Music: Pity Party: New from Alt Rock Outfit Hotel Mira

Canadian alt-rock group HOTEL MIRA release their new studio album ‘Pity Party’ on 14th March 14 via Light Organ/604 Records. Last year the band released an EP ‘I Am Not Much Help’ and two UK singles ‘Waste Away’ and ‘The View From The Barstool’.

This hugely talented quartet comprises of LA based charismatic front man and songwriter Charlie Kerr, guitarist Clark Grieve, bassist Mike Noble and drummer Cole George.

Charlie Kerr says: “Pity Party captures the genre and concept of the songs — the feeling of cycling between extreme joy, excitement and excess (party) and the impending depression, hangover and paranoia (pity). Being so caught up in the self-obsession of ends of this spectrum that you neglect to give yourself to anything of use”.

The band are currently on an extensive US tour with Rare Americans and prior to that supported Our Lady Peace & Collective Soul on their arena tour. Last year the band performed a series of shows SXSW, at the Great Escape Festival and at Reeperbahn in Germany, as well as headlining two UK tours.

Charlie and Mike met as teenagers at a ‘Battle of the Bands’ and developed a mutual admiration for each other’s musical projects, they met Cole and Clark through the Vancouver music scene and formed Hotel Mira. Kerr is a captivating storyteller and the music from Hotel Mira is partly informed by the front man’s experience as an actor and playwright. He believes that acting, music, and writing are all the same thing: storytelling.

Live Charlie performs in a way that feels uniquely part Iggy Pop, part go-go dancer, and part fourth wall breaking experimental theatre. He tells a story to the crowd through his masterful lyrics, hip-swaying melodies, and attentiveness to his audience that makes each person in the venue feel special. Mike, Cole and Clark provide a sweeping soundscape that makes it impossible not to be swept away in the melodrama and passion of each song they play.

Recently Charlie landed his biggest acting role to date as a lead in a feature film called ‘Shiver’, playing Paul, alongside Oscar nominated and multi-Emmy winner Greg Kinear. The film has been written and directed by multi-award winner Claire McCarthy.
