Music: tinvis: Echo

Echo is the second single from Texnia – the debut album from tinvis, the musical project of singer songwriter Joel Daniel.

Rooted in introspection and movement, ‘Echo’ was written during a period of constant travel between California and Texas, capturing the feeling of existing in two places at once—yet belonging to neither.

Texnia, marks a milestone for tinvis, whose years in the Davis/Sacramento music scene have shaped a unique blend of indie rock influences. The album was made possible by an arts grant from the City of Davis, CA, through its Arts and Cultural Affairs Fund, a program that has since contributed over $50K to local artists.

For this record, Daniel collaborated with an impressive lineup of musicians, including producer Max Hart (War on Drugs, Katy Perry, We Are Scientists, The Staves), lead guitarist Luke Reynolds (Guster, Sharon Van Etten, Brett Dennen), and drummer Eric Gardner (Tom Morello, Melissa Etheridge). A significant portion of the album was recorded in Austin, Texas, at Ramble Creek Studio with Britton Beisenherz (Clap Your Hands Say Yeah, Marie/Lepanto, Will Johnson, Little Mazarn).

Blending elements of contemporary Bob Dylan, vintage Neil Young, and the sonic textures of Wild Pink and Radiohead, Daniel’s songwriting also nods to the influence of modern female singer-songwriters like Phoebe Bridgers, Ex:Re, Flock of Dimes, and Adrianne Lenker. The result is a collection of songs rich with melancholy, nostalgia, and cautious optimism—reflections of the expansive landscapes between Texas and California.

Beyond the music, Texnia represents something greater: the power of community-driven support for the arts. The original $5K grant that helped launch the project has since evolved into an initiative that has distributed over $70K to fellow artists through the Davis Independent Music Initiative. As venues disappear and algorithms dictate musical discovery, Daniel uses his platform to advocate for the preservation and sustainability of local music scenes.
