After turning heads with a pair of punchy sets at The Great Escape and a BBC Introducing showcase at The Glasshouse in Gateshead, rising pop artist Loren Heat returns with a bold new single. ‘Belladonna’, out Friday 27th June via Interval Records (EMI North/Generator), is their most confident and magnetic release to date.
Produced by Chad Rodgers, the track is a sleek and fearless dose of dark-pop, carried by glossy synths, razor-sharp hooks and Heat’s signature vocal flair. It’s a track that wears its influences on its sleeve – think early Gaga swagger with the cooler edges of Dua Lipa and Billie Eilish – but with a clear northern bite that keeps it grounded and distinctive.
“Belladonna is that person who you know isn’t good for you,” says Heat. “Their looks alone are a killer, and their kiss, their voice is poison. It’s that person who has you hooked with one look. You’ve not even spoken to them yet, but you’re already in deep.”
The single builds on the momentum of ‘2009’, a shimmering love letter to a formative year in pop music, and follows Heat’s debut EP Scarlet Haze, which introduced listeners to their mix of high-energy pop and emotional storytelling. Blending themes of love, lust and identity, their music is shaped by personal experiences and a journey through queerness, self-expression and resilience.
