Jordan Whitlock and Matt Bauer of Memory Spells come together for This Is What It Feels Like, a debut collaborative album shaped entirely across distance. Written and produced remotely between San Diego and Los Angeles, the project captures a sense of connection formed without physical proximity. The pair only met in person after completing more than half the record.
Rooted in dream pop, the album explores the defining moments of human relationships, moving through longing, devotion, and quiet reflection. Tracks like “Do You Think of It Sometimes,” “All I See Is You,” and “Bloom” highlight its emotional range, pairing airy synths, minimalist guitar, and vintage drum machines with atmospheric strings.
Whitlock’s clear, expressive vocals sit at the center of the project, weaving through Memory Spells’ layered production to create a sound that feels both intimate and expansive. The result reflects the nature of its creation, balancing closeness with distance.
The album stands as a study in collaboration, showing how shared ideas can evolve into something cohesive even when created miles apart. This Is What It Feels Like introduces a partnership built on trust, restraint, and a shared sense of atmosphere.
