Bróna McVittie has released her new single ‘Humpy’, the latest preview of her forthcoming album Supernatural, due for release around Halloween/Samhain 2026 via State51 and Company of Corkbots.
Following the atmospheric ‘The Stolen Child’, McVittie returns with a more electronic sound on ‘Humpy’, blending pulsing beats, Irish Gaelic vocals and traditional folklore influences into a hypnotic and surprisingly catchy track.
Inspired by ‘The Legend of Knockgrafton’, a traditional Irish fairy tale featured in her book A Way with the Fairies, the song retells the story of Lusmore, a hunchback weaver whose musical gift earns him the favour of the fairies. At its heart is the tale’s enduring warning: be careful what you wish for.
“It’s impossible not to fall in love with this story,” says McVittie. “It’s classic Irish tragicomedy at its best. The nursery rhyme-like refrain chanted by the fairies, ‘Dé Luain, Dé Máirt’ (Monday, Tuesday) became a major inspiration for my song Humpy.”
Produced by Thomas Gandey (Cagedbaby), ‘Humpy’ offers another glimpse into Supernatural, a collection of songs inspired by Irish fairy lore and the stories featured in A Way with the Fairies. The album will also feature guest appearances from Spanish flamenco guitarist Antonia Jiménez, Ukrainian bandurist Anastasiya Voytyuk and Lithuanian vocalist-composer Jausmė.
‘Humpy’ is available now across all major digital platforms.
