Norwegian alt-pop artist MIIA is entering a new phase of her career with the release of her latest single, “Necessary Evil,” a track that combines her emotionally rich songwriting with a more club-focused electronic sound.
Known for her haunting vocals and introspective approach to pop music, MIIA explores fresh territory on “Necessary Evil,” drawing from dance-pop, UK garage, speed garage and bassline influences. Produced by Joachim Rygg (JR), the collaborator behind MIIA’s breakout hit “Dynasty,” and mixed by acclaimed engineer Spike Stent, the track is built around skittering 2-step rhythms, deep basslines, airy synth textures and chopped vocal elements. The release of “Necessary Evil” arrives as MIIA prepares for her debut album, Huldra, which is scheduled for release in summer 2026. Inspired by the mythical forest spirit of Scandinavian folklore, the project explores themes of freedom, self-love and shedding shame.
