Edfringe Comedy Review: Aarian Mehrabani: How’s Your Head?

The question ‘How’s Your Head?’ is usually asked regarding someone’s physical or mental health, but Aarian explains what it now means in modern times, not just to the audience, but also to his dad!

The show starts with him picking one member of the audience (which happened to be me!) to be a personal narrator for him, describing where people in the audience were sitting and what their ‘vibe’ was. I was fairly nervous about doing this as I’m not great when being picked for crowd work, but Aarian made it very light-hearted and funny.

He also provided us with printed out official documents as proof of his blindness, and he continued to do this with multiple things throughout the show, including his negative STI test results.

Aarian has had a life full of challenges, from being diagnosed with a degenerative genetic disorder at age 7 to being diagnosed with a brain tumour in 2024. He has every right to be grumpy and hate the world, but he comes across as the opposite.

His performance is funny and silly, but overall, it is inspiring. How he can take a ‘bad’ situation and flip it on its head brings smiles to everyone’s faces. He used to be embarrassed of losing his sight but now embraces it as part of him, just as much as his ethnicity and his sexuality is.

This show is intimate in feeling and at the end of the show I genuinely felt like I was tearing up with him.

Expect banter, bells, and beauty, with this heartwarming coming of age comedy show.

Aarian Mehrabani: How’s Your Head?, 16:45, Bluebell at Underbelly, George Square, until August 31
