This show is based on one of the most difficult tasks for many parents – leaving the house on time, and doing it without getting too distracted.
This is a two person show starring performers Rich and Matt, who are both wearing colour co-ordinated t-shirts with their initials printed on, just in case you get them mixed up. Rich is desperately trying to control the situation and get them out of the house in time to return a library book, all while Matt is having none of it.
So, what does Rich do? He makes a list of things Matt needs to do before they leave, with a small reward at their completion.
The audience goes on to help Matt flip pancakes, pack his bag, and even find his shows.
Through the gradually increasing messiness of the stage, the final challenge is revealed, the dreaded task of cleaning his very messy bedroom (which also happens to be full of monsters!)
This pair’s attentiveness and awareness of the audience is truly inspiring. This was a booked-out show but they both still managed to make every kid and parent feel seen and included.
“The Listies” is a family show that truly encapsulates what’s important about performing for kids – making them laugh and annoying their parents for the next week with repeating jokes.
At the end of the show, a little girl near me turned to her mum and asked if they could come again. That’s the sign of a good show.
The Listies: 110% Ready, 13:00, Studio One at Assembly George Square Studios, 5th – 16th (not 13th)
