Rising singer-songwriter Mya Angelique has released her new single, “Teenage Popstar,” a catchy pop-rock track that explores the challenges of growing up while balancing ambition, self-doubt, and the desire to fit in.
Built around memorable melodies and introspective songwriting, the song examines the tension between seeking recognition and staying true to yourself. “‘Teenage Popstar’ is about wanting to be seen while trying not to lose yourself in the process,” Angelique says. “It’s a reflection on the fantasies we create, the pressure we put on ourselves, and the realization that growing up means learning who you are beyond everyone else’s expectations.”
Born and raised in Puerto Rico, Angelique began her musical training at the Conservatory of Music of Puerto Rico before continuing her studies in New York. She is currently studying Music Composition at Berklee College of Music.
The single follows her debut EP, Paper Girls, and continues her focus on personal storytelling and emotional honesty. Influenced by artists such as Olivia Rodrigo, Gracie Abrams, Lorde, and Maisie Peters, Angelique blends reflective lyrics with polished pop production to create music that speaks to themes of identity, self-worth, and growing up.
