Atticus Kane Explores Immigration and Identity on “Love Me Not”

Atticus Kane Explores Immigration and Identity on “Love Me Not”

Brooklyn-based, Budapest-born songwriter Atticus Kane has released “Love Me Not,” the latest single from his album News From Delphi.

The fast-paced rock track draws on Kane’s personal experience as an immigrant, using a series of political robocalls as the starting point for a broader reflection on American identity, belonging and the contradictions of loving a country while remaining critical of its shortcomings.

Kane says the song was inspired by repeated calls from a Florida politician campaigning on an anti-immigrant platform. Having previously lived in Miami, he believes he remained on a political contact list. The experience prompted him to consider the contrast between America’s long-standing image as a cultural melting pot and increasingly divisive debates over who can claim to be a “real American.”

That tension sits at the centre of “Love Me Not.” Rather than presenting a straightforward political statement, Kane explores the complicated relationship between affection and disillusionment. The song considers whether criticism can come from a place of commitment, particularly when the subject is somewhere that has become home.

“I am proud to be an American immigrant,” Kane says, adding that loving something also means being willing to acknowledge its flaws. For him, that perspective extends to a wider belief in an America where people from different backgrounds, religions and social classes can pursue their potential.

Musically, “Love Me Not” sits between indie rock, alternative pop and singer-songwriter traditions. Kane cites artists including Courtney Barnett, Sam Fender and Declan McKenna among his touchstones, while his own work combines personal storytelling with wider questions about politics, identity and belonging.

The new single adds another chapter to News From Delphi, an album shaped by Kane’s interest in human connection and the idea of analogue music in an increasingly disconnected world. His work has already received support from outlets including Fame Magazine, Backseat Mafia and Dancing About Architecture.
