Calcutta-born, Madrid-based singer-songwriter and producer weyvir is set to release his new single, “Streets of Love, Pt. 1,” on September 9.
Blending indie rock, alternative pop, power pop and surf rock, the track explores the restless feeling of holding onto someone even when you know you should let go. Written almost eight years ago while weyvir was still in high school, the song has remained with him through his move from his teenage years to life in Madrid.
The track began with its chorus, written in response to heartbreak and the frustration of feelings that could not be expressed. Weyvir gradually built the rest of the song around that original idea, creating a story that has continued to evolve with him.
“I haven’t ever been able to give up on this song since I wrote it, and I’m finally giving it the ending it deserves.”
That sense of unfinished business is central to “Streets of Love, Pt. 1.” Rather than treating romance as something predetermined, weyvir focuses on choices, missed opportunities and unresolved emotions. The result is a nostalgic but immediate pop-rock track, pairing bright melodies with a more complicated emotional undercurrent.
The song draws from a varied set of influences. Its chorus was initially inspired by Band of Horses’ “The Funeral,” while the beat takes cues from The Wonders’ “That Thing You Do.” The Beach Boys, Supergrass and Arctic Monkeys also helped shape its melodic and rhythmic character.
“Streets of Love, Pt. 1” follows weyvir’s recent single “just gotta let u know,” which combined bossa nova with elements of grunge, pop punk and UK garage. Across his releases, he continues to move between alternative rock and pop, with songwriting rooted in personal experience.
Weyvir has accumulated more than 25,000 streams across his solo work, while his collaborations have surpassed one million streams. His live career began in the DIY circuit around Syracuse University before he relocated to Madrid, where he continues to develop his sound. He has shared stages with artists including Rebecca Black and also fronts rock band Hard Fuse on vocals and bass.
