KALEO Go Monumental with New Colosseum Concert Film

KALEO have built a career out of turning striking locations into stages, and their latest concert film, KALEO: Viva Roma – In the Shadow of the Colosseum, continues that pattern with a sense of focus rather than spectacle. Filmed beside the ancient Colosseum to mark the band’s tenth anniversary, the performance is now streaming worldwide on StagePlayer+. Details and access are available at www.watchkaleo.com.

The film captures the Icelandic group on March 2, 2024, performing material from across their catalogue against the backdrop of one of the most recognisable structures in the world. Songs including Way Down We Go, Lonely Cowboy and No Good are delivered with the restrained intensity that has become central to KALEO’s identity, framed by the stark presence of the Roman amphitheatre.

Frontman Jökull “JJ” Júlíusson has long favoured natural or remote landscapes for the band’s visual projects, and he describes the Colosseum performance as a natural progression. “Doing the videos we’ve done in Iceland, in beautiful nature, the next step was going to historical places, and the Colosseum was top of my list. It’s a once-in-a-lifetime experience. It’s such a special show to have immortalized on film, and we can’t wait to share it with our fans.”

The release follows a decade in which KALEO have grown from a trio of childhood friends from Mosfellsbær into a globally recognised rock outfit. The group now reaches more than 16 million monthly Spotify listeners and has passed six billion streams in total. Way Down We Go sits in the Spotify Billions Club and remains one of their most widely circulated tracks, appearing in more than three million TikTok videos and featured across television series including Yellowstone, Grey’s Anatomy, Lucifer, Suits and The Blacklist, as well as FIFA and Madden NFL soundtracks.

The band’s history of visually ambitious performances includes shows inside the dormant Þríhnúkagígur volcano, on a drifting iceberg in the Fjallsárlón glacial lagoon, and at the isolated Þrídrangaviti lighthouse above the Atlantic. The Colosseum film acts as a document of this ongoing fascination with unusual environments while marking a milestone in their career.

KALEO: Viva Roma – In the Shadow of the Colosseum is available now on StagePlayer+, priced at £12.99. More information can be found at www.watchkaleo.com. Their latest album, Mixed Emotions, is also out now.
