Lee Simeone is a British self-taught multi-instrumentalist who has mastered his own unique style since he first arrived on the music scene in 2009, he is also an award winning film producer with his documentary ‘You Better Take Cover’, the story of Australian band Men At Work and the Kookaburra plagiarism controversy winning best documentary short at both the Melbourne and St Kilda Film Festivals.

Hey Lee, We are almost halfway through 2022, how has this year been for you so far?

It started pretty bad, but then things suddenly blossomed. There were a lot of gaps when recording the current album, then suddenly, it all started moving again. I’m already starting another album of songs.

How would you describe yourself in three words?

Loyal, Determined , Dreamer

How did you get into your current career?

Magic. Music is the only true magic in life.

How would you describe your work?

I would describe the songs as anthemic. I also like to make sure that there is a lot of exterior ambiance on the recordings. I dig an open sound that gives each instrument space to breathe in the mix.

I’m a big fan of old horror movies, so I like to recreate sounds akin to those in old scores.

Although I’m mainly an electronic act, there are acoustic and rock elements.

What do you want people to take away from it?

I always try to put some element of stark reality into my productions, so a little patch of the big sky & a rainbow.

What inspires you and who are your influences?

Effects are a big part of what I do. My partners in crime are my ‘AMS’ & ‘Eventide’ units. I’d say those two inspire me the most.

Influence: My old pal Paul Reynolds from ‘A Flock of Seagulls’ taught me the guitar and how not to be a pop star.

Who are you listening to at the moment?

Rupert Hine – The Set Up

John Carpenter – Themes III

Peter Gabriel – Wallflower

What, if anything, are you reading?

Grief Is The Thing With Feathers (Max Porter)

Lucid Dreaming (Robert Waggoner)

What advice would you give to your younger self?

Follow your dreams but be careful what you wish for, it may come true.

What’s next for you? What are you most excited for?

An acoustic EP & will mark my first. Hopefully, some gigs will follow in and around Europe, both electronic & acoustic.
