Q&A with The Cuza Front Singer, Tudor

Last month, Manchester band The Cuza recently released a new uplifting and optimistic song ‘A Life Full Of Colour’.

We chat to front man, Tudor, about the band, how their year has been so far, and what’s in store for them in 2023…

Hey there (Tudor) how are you?

I am fantastic, just done a half marathon and I’m eating my peppers (on a peppers and milk diet right now, if you know, you know).

We are in the second month of 2023! What a strange few years we have had: Pandemic, war in Europe etc. How have you been coping with the world during this time?

The pandemic has been a difficult time for sure, the isolation from the world was unbearable from my point of view, so I am very glad that we’ve gone back to normal now. As for the war, my home country being so close to Ukraine (I’m originally from Transylvania, Romania), it’s definitely scary to see the situation from up close – my parents keep me up to speed with everything. Scary, scary times and I hope there is a resolve on the horizon soon.

But considering, I think most people, like myself, who kept a positive mindset during it, have come on the better side of it.

How are you feeling about the future?

I’m taking one day a time for now, so haven’t really thought too much in advance, but I’m positive about it. The future is as bright as you make today be.

How did you get into music?

I used to listen to a lot of – pardon my french – very shitty music as a child. When the teenage years hit, I started listening to the likes of Nirvana, My Chemical Romance, Radiohead and seeing how charismatic and unique Kurt, Gerard and Tom were, I instantly wanted to be like them. So I started blowing my vocal chords on high notes I couldn’t yet reach, record myself on my phone and cringe afterwards. Even though I sounded like a dying whale at the beginning, I was passionate about it and I kept going until I started sounding more like a human being.

When and why did you form your band The Cuza? Tell us all about it.

Well, the rest of the boys Wayne (guitar), James (guitar), Shaun (bass guitar) and Ryna (drums) already knew each other and played in a band before. After Wayne decided to look for a new singer mid 2019, we got together for an ‘audition’ in December 2019 and that was when The Cuza was formed. Why? Cause we love to create and play music that makes us think, feel, dance, sing, cry and jump.

How would you describe your work?

Diverse, no set we play live is ever the same. Thought provoking.

What do you want people to take away from it?

Whatever they can. If it inspires them to think in different ways, if it makes them feel anything at all, then our job is done.

What inspires you and who are your influences?

We’re a bit all over the place really, with influences from Northern Soul to Death Metal, from Bowie to Slayer and everything in between. We are inspired by life and its beauty.

What advice would you give to your younger self?

Do yourself more and shine.

What’s next for you?

We are releasing our debut album A Life Full Of Colour in July this year, so we are very, very excited for that to finally come out! Our first single A Life Full Of Colour was released earlier in January, with two more to follow in March and May, accompanied by probably the coolest music videos we’ve ever had done for our music. Lots of live dates to be announced as well, new music for our 2nd album being recorded as we speak, ahhhh how thrilling.

What are you most excited for?

The moment more and more people find out about our music, playing a lot of venues from our bucket lists and making the most out of this beautiful journey that The Cuza is!
