Independent alternative rock band Skies Behind has unveiled their deeply emotive EP, The Spaces.
This collection of soul-stirring tracks serves as a poignant narrative, exploring themes of trauma, resilience, and the relentless pursuit of meaning in a world fraught with challenges.
Skies Behind, hailing from the cultural hotspot of Cork, Ireland, has been steadily garnering attention with the release of two singles from the EP, “I Love It” and “So Many Ways.”
These preludes have resonated deeply, both within their native Ireland and beyond, setting the stage for the EP’s eagerly awaited debut.
“The Spaces” is a sonic exploration that draws inspiration from a diverse musical palette, echoing the influences of Biffy Clyro, Bloc Party, Foo Fighters, Boygenius, Orla Gartland, Chime THUMPER, Pillow Queens, Plini, and IDLES.
The EP’s narrative unfolds with the opening track, “Red Eyes,” introducing our protagonist, who navigates the aftermath of intense trauma. The lyrics paint a vivid picture of their struggle to move forward, feeling disoriented and “too damaged to try.” The haunting realization sets the stage for a journey through introspection and healing.
In “I Love It,” the narrative deepens, exposing the societal pressure to project perfection. The lyrics explore the internal conflict of hiding struggles behind a façade while acknowledging the universal truth that everyone grapples with their own issues. The song marks a turning point as the protagonist recognizes the need for help and embraces vulnerability, fostering connections with loved ones.
“Seven Months” delves into the significance of relationships and the profound impact they have on our lives. Amidst life’s hardships, the protagonist contemplates the worth of enduring pain for the sake of genuine connections. The song becomes an ode to the importance of being present for those who matter most.
“So Many Ways” offers a reflection on the passage of time and distance, allowing the protagonist to appreciate the impact of individuals who once filled their life. The lyrics capture the essence of reclaiming hope and acknowledging the spaces left by departed loved ones, ultimately choosing to move forward.
Closing the narrative loop, “CSB” finds our protagonist coming to terms with life’s inherent absurdity. The track serves as a philosophical reflection, emphasizing the futility of dwelling on uncontrollable aspects. The lyrics convey a profound realization — to live a meaningful life, one must focus on what truly matters and let go of the irrelevant questions that weigh us down.
