Soapman have returned with ‘Y. L. T. Y.’, the third single from their upcoming debut album Baby Giants—and it’s another confident step forward for the West Sussex alt-rock band making quiet waves with their offbeat, unpredictable sound.

Clocking in at just under three minutes, ‘Y. L. T. Y.’ is sharp, restless, and full of left-turns. The track throws together jagged guitar lines, tumbling rhythms and a stream-of-consciousness lyrical style that feels immediate without trying too hard. It’s the kind of song that manages to sound loose and tightly wound at the same time.

There’s something refreshingly unfussy about Soapman’s approach. They borrow from a range of influences—there’s a trace of British Sea Power’s wonkier moments, or early Graham Coxon’s wiry guitar pop—but it never feels referential. Instead, ‘Y. L. T. Y.’ captures a band comfortable pushing into stranger territory, without losing grip of a solid hook.

What’s striking is how the band pairs introspective writing with such a restless, propulsive sound. It makes ‘Y. L. T. Y.’land somewhere between catharsis and celebration—messy in all the right ways.

With Baby Giants on the way, Soapman are showing their range early. If the first three singles are anything to go by, the album won’t be easy to pin down. That’s probably the point.
